Merry was an aspiring children’s book illustrator. She had written two book of her own entitled “Term Life Insurance,” and “How to deal with Term Life Insurance brokers.” They weren’t a big hit, and she definitely preferred children’s books to books about term life insurance, how to compare quotes, and how to get cheap rates. She liked the way that children’s books were colorful and simple with a plot and with a lot of little ditties and things like that. She hoped that she would one day be able to write and illustrate all her won books, but for now she was stuck with books about term life insurance. Suddenly, she had an idea and got onto a classified site and started emailing people to try and get an illustrating job, because it seemed like the surest way into the business. The emails went as follows:
Hi! My name is Merry I am a children's book illustrator. I also design characters on my free time. I found your ad on the classified site and am extremely interested. I have attached a few samples of my past work, and if you would like to see a specific example feel free to ask. I work from home and have a lot of free time, so I will have plenty of time to devote to the project. I would love to work with you on this project! Thanks,Merry
But to the first, she received no replies, and although she felt a bit disheartened, she continued to try and get some work.
Hi there, I found your request for an illustrator on this classifieds web site and was interested. I have completed two children's books before and have enclosed a few samples of my work. I would think that for the eight illustrations I would charge about $175. If you are interested in working with me feel free to contact me here.Thank you,Merry Weather
She still had found no work, so she put it all aside for the day, just wishing that she would not have to keep emailing people to get no replies. Maybe in the morning someone would have gotten back to her, though she was not particularly hopefully. She guessed that it would take a lot more work to get another job as an illustrator, so she went on to sleep, wondering to her self, both out loud as well as inside her mind if she would ever become a children’s book illustrator.
