'I heard you woman. Yeah Life insurance policies' He barely drawled as he played on his XBOX.

'Jake you could take more of an interest this is our bloody future .We need to get it sorted. I want it sorted today . When I come back form work I want you to have it all in hand OK?'

'Yeh whatever,' Jake responded to Amanda as though he couldn't care less.

'Jake could you possibly care just a little and reassure me you will do the life insurance policies today. Its the least you could do while I'm out there slogging my self to death while you sit playing your bloody XBOX.'

Following that remark Jake jumped up of the settee and flung the control at the door causing a dent. His button had been pushed.

'That's right rub it in, another bloody opportunity for you to slag me off because I can't find a job.I was made redundant you know. Every bloody chance you get its nag nag nag. That's all I get from you.You think I don't want to work. Do you think I don't care about life insurance .Of course I do just as much as you if not more. The problem is Amanda you bring me down at every opportunity. The patronising way you speak to me ,the way you order me to do things. You know what I am sick of you , sick of us. I play the XBOX to chill because I'm so bloody stressed.'

'Stressed?' Amanda retorted 'Ha! you don't know what stress is. I go out everyday and do a twelve hour shift and what do you do?'

Jake's face and neck were bright red with anger now.

'I, I cook,shop, wash, clean the house ,do the garden. Go to the frigging Job centre everyday check the job ads everyday. Have you any idea how demoralising that is.?'

'Try a twelve hour shift at the nursing home if you think that's hard work' Her attitude hadn't changed she was still goading him relentless in her put downs.

Jake suddenly lunged for her throat and squeezed and squeezed. She was choking and losing her breath .Suddenly her legs gave way. Jake let go realising he had lost it totally .He bent over her and lifted her head Amanda I'm so sorry ,I'm so so sorry, Oh god what have I done.

Suddenly she began to cough and breathe again. It was a narrow escape .Soon after that Amanda and Jake parted. It was never going to work.
